Hi again: The overall length of the rod is just a shade under 3-1/4". About 3/4" of each end of the rod is rough machined to a very slightly smaller diameter than the polished main rod. In addition, the ends have a very small chamfer machined into them. I also found it difficult to remove the rod as it just doesn't "drop" out. I now carry an extra one in my tool box.
