It has always been my speculated opinion that the tail of the oversized P in the DPDC logo was a representation of the letter I for Imperial. Even though the Imperial was not a separate make until 1955, the Imperial was still the flagship of the corporation from day one and having what appears to be prominant representation of the letter I in the center of the logo makes logical sense, at least to me. I further speculate that the pentastar was created to honor all five makes of the corporation, even though DeSoto had been discontinued, because, quite frankly, a pentastar looks better than a square or four-sided diamond. Just my "two cents" for what it's worth. -----Original Message----- From: Ray Jones <1970hurst@xxxxxxxxx> To: Listsaver 300 Club <chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>; Forward Look Broadcast <L-FORWARDLOOK@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Mon, Apr 22, 2013 8:18 am Subject: [Chrysler300] DPCD and the Pentastar FOUND ON A GUIDE LENS SITE * PCD and the Pentastar * <https://sites.google.com/site/guidetotaillightcodes/Home/did-you-know/Pentastar%20small.jpg?attredirects=0> The letters in Chryslers intertwined DPCD logo, adopted in the 1930s, riginally stood for Dodge-Plymouth-Chrysler-DeSoto, but when DeSoto was ropped (in 1961) the second D was left without a raison dtre. Some pologists, either in or out of the Corporation (this has never been stablished), suggested that the second D now stood for Dodge trucks, which as a convenient thing to say except that trucks had been part of the ineup all along, so if it were true there should have been three Ds to tart with. Chrysler never offered an official explanation, nor did it say why a letter asnt added for Imperial when it became a separate make in 1955. The ssue was mooted in 1962, when the famous Pentastar was introduced, though he old logo remained on lenses until at least 1965. The new logo is sually accompanied by the letters CC, which obviously stand for Chrysler orporation. * * *To the best of our knowledge, no one has ever explained, or even asked, hat the the five points of the Pentastar mean. Perhaps they stand for the our surviving brands (Plymouth, Dodge, Chrysler, and Imperial) plus Dodge rucks (now Ram), which can be included because there are no messy initials o worry about. But today the lineup is down to three (Dodge, Chrysler and eep) plus trucks, so there are now at least one, or perhaps two, extra oints on the star, depending on whos counting. https://sites.google.com/site/guidetotaillightcodes/Home/did-you-know If the link doesn't come thru, Google Guide lens codes ay -- Ray Jones.
