I did not see any mention of the valve bodies as a potential problem. Your
trans has 3 valve bodies mounted to the transfer plate. The function of the
spools in those valve bodies are critical to the engagement of bands and
clutches. I have rebuilt several of these trans. I have found scored stuck
spools. It is not difficult to service valve bodies. You do not need to
remove trans from car. Follow service manual and keep all parts in in order
of assembly.
Everything must be clean, clean, clean.
