The bane of many a cooling system - and seldom addressed while looking everywhere else for a problem source - is the fan clutch. When new, the non-thermally activated type of clutch may spin the fan at something like 30% of water pump speed, but when they wear out they may spin at half that speed without it being apparent. They don't last forever. Replacing it with a thermal one is the best way to go, but at least a new non-thermal one would be a smart move. Problem is you will need a bit of luck finding an NORS one. I made some of these clutches up some time back, and I could think about doing another batch of them. The ones I made were thermally activated and bring the speed up to something like 65% when the coolant is hot. As I recall they ran about $125. Frankly I'm really not looking forward to adding something more to my agenda, but I would rather not hear of cars not able to be driven for lack of a fan clutch. Is there further interest at this time?
