Thanks again for the help! I ended up ordering a set of KYB KG4507’s for the front and KYB KG5511’s for the rear, per recommendation in an article by Larry Jett on the 300 Club website. (I am a bit embarrassed that the information I was seeking was actually right under my nose!) After some comparison shopping, I ordered them from RockAuto for a total of $144, including shipping. Within less than 4 hours, they sent me a shipping notification with tracking number – pretty impressive response! The Club website article also had detailed, illustrated instructions for modifying and installing these gas-charged shocks. And a tip from another member led me to the Imperial Club, which also had a similar article on installation of these same part number shocks on a ’57 Imperial. This listserver and the 300 Club website are really marvelous resources – ultra-cooperative, informative and responsive! Although the shocks on the car seem to work OK, I know they are not original (fronts are blue Monroes, rear are no-name black ones), so while the front end is apart and shocks are easily accessible, I would like to replace them with modern gas-charged shocks that are appropriately valved for the stiffer suspension on the 300C, rather than for the supposedly softer spring rates on the New Yorker, for example. Andy Bernbaum has gas-charged shocks, but admits that they are not really anything different for the 300C; they are merely applicable all across the line. I recall (but can't find) previous correspondence on this subject, talking about gas-charged KYB shocks. Can anyone please refer me to a current source (and applicable FT/RR part numbers, if available) for the Heavy-Duty shocks (any brand) for my car?
