Re: [Chrysler300] no brake lights

The brake lights do operate on the F with or without the ignition switch on.  Directional signals won't operate unless  the ignition switch is on .

An other safety thought as we get ready to get our 300s back on the road in the next month or so - Good idea to pick up a set of  highway reflector triangles to have in the trunk.

I believe the brakes lights are functional with the igntion key off.

Aren't they?

Hi Patrick,

Try pulling the two leads off of the brake light switch on your master
cylinder. Then run a jumper wire between the wires themselves, turn the
key on, and see if the brake lights go on. If they do go on, you have
found the culprit - the switch is bad and needs to be replaced. This
switch is frequently on Ebay.

Did you change your brake system over to silicon brake fluid? This
fluid type is known to eat up these switches one after another. So if
you want to continue with the silicon fluid, buy several of the switches
if you can get 'em. The other thing you can do instead is put a
mechanical switch that is tripped by the brake pedal arm under the dash.
