RE: [Chrysler300] Re: REAR WINDOW ADVICE

I'll second that. My experience in removing several windshield and back
glasses from '60 Mopars has taught me that the factory didn't use sealant as
a general rule. Now it could be the sealant was added after the fact for
whatever reason, but for the most part it has just been the gasket that did
the sealing.

The gasket rubber used by Chrysler has held up very well over the years,
with the exception of severely sun-damaged cars. Careful use of non-metal
glass/trim tools to break the seal, some WD40 spray and careful pressure
from inside to remove the glass always worked for me. Afterwards, wipe off
the WD-40, and rub in the non-abrasive GoJo hand cleaner. Works wonders on
the rubber to rejuvenate it and allow reuse, generally without sealant.
Reuse of the original one piece gasket is the best way to go if you can.

Shouldn't be any sealant in the locking strip!
Removing the window is about a 15 minute job.

Thanks for all the great advice. I saw in the Service manual about
unlocking the weather strip but with all the sealant it is not easily
separating. Based on the emails, I'll keep working at it and see if a heat
gun helps. Sounds like the consensus is that the weather strip is
reuseable. I won't get to until the weekend but will let everyone know how
it works. Thanks again. This is a great club.
