Drove the F to Morris, IL cruise-in this afternoon - 749 cars but only two 300s - my F and a '70 that's still in its resto process. One guy, definitely sober, stopped to talk about the F, and relat ed the following story - He said there was a fellow named Ed Cepek (spelling?) who had purchased an F convertible new. After about 20 years, Ed's F developed some sort of major engine problem, he wasn't about to fix it, and he didn't want anyone else to put their hands on the car. So he towed the F to the " Fireman's Beach & Park Club" in South Wilmington, IL. Then he took an endloader and pushed the F into a lake there, where it still sits - about 6' under water. He said the F is still visible in the water. Has anyone heard this story? The fellow speaking with me said he has a photo of it in the water, and that he'll show it to me at the next Morris cruise-in on October 13. This Club is private, so I can't get in there to check it out, and no luck on Google.
