RE: [Chrysler300] ?'s about w/shield installation

Hi.

This is what I do and it works well for me, never any leaks.

You need:

- window cleaner in a spay can, ( makes windshield slide into rubber groove
easier).

-flat plastic windshield knife ( I call it a carlite but do not know if this
is the correct name for it...).

- a helper.

-nitrile mechanic gloves to keep sealant off your hands...the stuff is
really hard to remove from your skin...

The original sealant between body and gasket was some sort of grey mastic
stuff. It has to be cleaned off the groove in the gasket before re
installation, if you are re using the original gasket.

Instead of the grey mastic stuff, I use a sealant that comes in a roll, it
is ½ inch wide and about 1/16 thick. I install that sealant over the lip
all around the opening, so ¼ inch of this sealant is on each side of the
lip.

This sealant is of the ?stay soft ? type, kinda like the original butyl type
stuff. Do not use urethane sealant that is used on modern cars, it will
become hard and is almost impossible to clean off the rubber gasket, it will
ruin it.

Install the gasket around the opening. Unlock the ?locking lip?. Then
install the glass into the gasket by inserting it into the bottom groove
first and then work the sides and the top of the glass into the gasket
groove with the help of the plastic flat tool. Liberal use of window cleaner
makes this easier.

You can ?tap? the glass with the palm of your hand to help it slide all the
way into the gasket groove.

Once the glass is in its correct position, you can use a ?stay soft?
windshield sealant in a tube ( I use the one from Gary Goers), and put a
little bit of sealant between glass and rubber gasket.

Then you lock the lip. Excess sealant will flow out, you can wipe it off and
clean it with window cleaner... I find that brake cleaner sprayed on a rag
works really well also to remove the excess sealant.

Good luck, have fun and let us know how your fingers feel after the job
is completed!!

Jean-Yves .

Good Morning Group!

In preparation for the rip to Carlisle, I'm preparing to install my new
but not 100% correct w/shield in the F and have a few questions for those

Of you who may have experience in this procedure.

#1 what kind of sealer, if any, should go between the gasket and the fence?

#2 what if any between the glass and the gasket?

Do I install the gasket on the fence first or the glass?

Got the restored carbs on the car and she is running fine. Had to crank all
the idle screws and the air by-pass

Screws in finger tight and go "by the book" in order to get the idle down
to manageable levels for final tune.

Man these things are finickey when it comes to fine tuning!!

New 225/75R15's with 21/32" W/W are on the '70 Hurst type road wheels and
ready to go.

Looking forward to some good advice on the w/s install

Thanks Gang!!
