Re: [Chrysler300] BAT WING

The correct terminology is "DeltaWing".  I've written on this topic before and can tell you that the pods between 1955 and 1956 are different on the inside and are not interchangeable even though they appear the same on the outside.

I'd be very careful in what you stuff these things as you may end up sucking some material into the engine and that might not be pretty.  I'm not saying that installing a K&N or like element couldn't be done, but for street use the oil baths work adequately per Chrysler engineers back in the day.

You might contact K&N, ask them if they can help.

Subject: [Chrysler300] BAT WING

I experienced a backfire in my '55 which produced a fire in the bat-wing requiring a fire extinguisher to put out. This occurred in the garage. Net result, lots and lots of white powder all over the engine compartment and garage; burned paint on bat-wing and what remained of the internal fiber insulation up in smoke.

Before I refinished the wing about a year ago, I tried cutting up and stuffing pieces of "red" scotch bright pad in place of the fiber as there was little left anyway. I would not say the effort was very successful due to the small "air holes" in other words limited access! Has anyone out there found a material that was capable of acting as a filter and how in *#* did you manage to "install" the material without destroying the pods.
