Wow! Thanks David! The car is going to JC Auto to have Jeff Carter install a transmission from Don Warraner or ? As soon as I get a little $...she'll be on the road again! I will add that dow pins were installed but they must have been the wrong size? I'll keep you all updated!! 300ly to all... "Sorry, but Merc and Furd Ranger manuals won't suffice for a MoPar!!" Here Ya go!! They are dowel pins I believe, and they have to do with the runout of the torque converter in relationship to the bell housing As bolted to the block. This is explained in the service manual under "torque converter hub runout" Quoted from section 113 page 66 "Torque converter service procedures" BORE RUNOUT: "the torque converter housing bore and face alignment, as well as the converter hub runout, should be checked anytime that a powerflite of torqueflite transmission is removed to correct leakage at the front pump oil seal or front pump failure, also whenever an engine replacement is made" Sounds like you need a pair of offset dowel pins. They were available in three sizes: .007" part #1736347 .014" part #1736348 .021" part # 1736353 The procedure is detailed in the 1960 service manual and would be the same for 1961. There was no complete service manual for 1961, only a supplement detailing differences from the 1960 model year. If you want to contact me off list, I would be glad to copy the pertinent pages and fax them to you. Hey hey everyone...I know I've been off the listserver and that's just not right. Yes, Melissa (my G), IS STILL SITTING IN THE GARAGE awaiting a new transmission. I've obtained several good ones in the past 1 to 1 1/2 years bot NOBODY seems to install them right!! You see there's a thing called dow pins and they must have broke off again or??? I just don't know but there is always never enough cooling pressure (coming from front pump) to adequately cool the transmission. The input shaft must be not 'true' because my front pumps are always getting 'gouged' or?? Does anyone have any suggestions as to why this happens over and over again!!?? BTW: The local guy doug even lowered his ego and has surrendered to figure it out. He does a great job on my '58 Merc and my '97 Ford Ranger. One of Doug's mechanics states "the car is possessed'!! Someone please help!!! ;-/ Sincerely & 300ly, Brandt H J w/ a mysterious G.
