[Chrysler300] A heated discussion

The heat guage in my lower case j, a 1963 413 Sport, has been sporadic and confusing in its reporting.....often resting at 7/8's and then dropping to 4/8's with no apparent reason.  The faster I drove, the hotter the guage showed.  Even when it was showing 7/8's hot, the character of the engine did not indicate temps in the 200's.  The console mounted compass was not very accurate so I removed the compass body and inserted a Dakota Digital engine temp guage in the compass hole.  It looks factory stock and is dead nuts accurate.  In  a few hundred miles of driving in town and country, the highest temp recorded (in stop and go traffic)s is 173)  The D/D temp sender was installed in the spot the factory unit was and peace of mind is now insured.  Just passing this intel on least some of you have erratic readings and suspect bad thermostats or radiators or lack of fan shrouds.  The Dakota Digital guage is just perfect for L's and those that have no temp guage other than a red light.  Off to the dinner table for a Thanks Dinner.  Thanks
