Tires -tires-tires. That's all I've been thinking about and calling about related to my 300G for the past 2 weeks. Very frustrating. The only standard production whitewall I can find is the Cooper, which is very reasonable at $75 each but it's only got a 3/4" whitewall. Now if I had a '62 or later, not a '61, they would already be on the car, but '61 still had a wide white, and I just can't convince myself that the 3/4" whitewall looks right on the car. I've been running Firestone 235R75-15 w/ the 1.6" whitewall for about 35 years on the car (2nd set now at 15 years of age), and I like the look. Not too fat, not too skinny. Yes, I am told the Kumho makes one too, but it is also 3/4" whitewall and more expensive, so that's no answer. It looks like the American Classic is the next best choice at $150 each, but it is not a standard production tire, Coker has them made and sells them through various distributors. Just how good is this tire? Anybody out there have them? What has your experience been? I just got off the phone with Diamond Back. The 23575R15 wide white Keith mentions is a "project" that seeks to make a tire that looks like a bias ply but be radial in construction. It needs to go through all kinds of testing once they make it (they haven't yet) and I don't want to be a guinea pig tester for them. Besides, they will be pricey. Is this American Classic a good reliable tire? I was looking for an update on the 235-75R14 tire project. He is focusing on a new 225-75R14 at the moment, and in the spring he is moving on to the 235-75R15, and then to the 235-75R14 in the fall. His current projection has the 235-75R14 available "by the end of 2012". Thought you'd like to know where things stand.
