RE: [Chrysler300] Blind hog finds aKorn

Ram K engine may be stamped C300K, even though my reference source does not
indicate such. It would only make sense. Someone will know for sure.

Rich,

Engine ID will be stamped on the boss on the top side of the cylinder block
just back of the water pump and under the back of the A/C compressor for an
RB engine. It should read V-41HP (V for 1964, 41 for 413, HP for high
performance). Also, there will be a production date stamped on the same
boss (month - date e.g. 9-22). Engine production date is usually reasonably
close to the scheduled build date on the data plate. Stamp will probably be
covered in crud and need a strong cleaning or sanding to read it. I've seen
them angled and off to the side i.e. the factory was not consistent.

I think (someone will correct me if wrong) the stamp on the ram engine in
'64 was the same as the single 4bbl K engine (unlike 1963, when the ram
engine was stamped C300J vs. T-41HP for the 360 horse version).

Chris: Thanks for the data plate readings. Your eyes are sharper than mine.
Glad you have the Chrysler secret decoder ring! Will the engine type
installed have a special code on the data plate?

Server rats (and I mean that in a nice way):

Below are the preliminary findings from INC club '64 consultant Chris Pinder
(who only lives 22 miles from me). Subject to confirmation by the build card
from the INT club microfilm files. Stay tuned, film at 11. Repeating, the
car can be viewed at: : <http://tinyurl.com/3u4kswc>
http://tinyurl.com/3u4kswc Looks like I won't be able to install that slick
red top in order to make it like it was. Thanks to all who have contributed
information and offers of parts. This resto will be a little more complex
than I originally thought. I just talked to the seller and he has removed
the missing a/c components from the parts car that came with the convertible
and reinstalled the brackets on the conv. engine. He says the engine looks
identical to that in the Newport 4-dr sedan in the parts car, so hopefully
it is the ram block. Can someone provide the proper ID on the block for a
ram engine? Something like 41 HP? And, where would I find it on the block?
Seller says previous owner was a Mr. Payne from Waynesville, NC who passed
away.

The car was stored in a basement as you see it since 1979 and most of the
missing parts were thrown out, including the missing front bar on the top
mechanism, door and rear seat side panels and one rear p/w motor. At some
point someone pirated the a/c compressor, condenser & hoses and these will
be transplanted from the parts car. Now to get it here.

C-300-K'ly,

Rich Barber

Hey Rich:

Nice score....looks like a genuine ram car to me, though I wish they had
posted pictures of the engine compartment. That is definitely a remote brake
booster under the left front fender. Plus, the convertible top switch is a
factory style switch placed on the dashboard below the usual mounting
position to accommodate the ram choke pull. But it seems the choke pull is
missing. This leads me to suspect that the intake set up was removed,
possibly early in it's life. These ram engines with the manual choke were
not an easy car to start cold and not easily drivable until warmed up. So
many a ram set up was removed by the dealers in the early days at a
frustrated customer's request. Don't be surprised if this is the case with
this car. But we can still hope...

Here are the options I was able to decipher from the pictures and data
plate:

Chrysler 300-K Convertible (BDY = 842)

Black Leather Interior (TRM = M8X)

Roman Red Metallic (PNT = TT)

Ram engine package (from pictures)

Automatic transmission, console shift (from data plate A=7)

Power Brakes (from data plate B=2, pictures, standard equipment)

Power Windows (from data plate D=4)

AM Search Tune Radio (tube radio, from pictures and data plate H=6)

Power Antenna (from data plate and pictures J=1)

Factory air conditioning (from pictures and data plate K=1)

Factory convertible top color "Black" (from data plate L=6)

Console (from pictures and data plate M=9, standard on 300-K)

Tinted windows all (from data plate Q=1 and mandatory with factory A/C)

Sill moldings (from data plate S=1)

Outside remote control mirror (from pictures and data plate T=2)

Rear speaker with reverberator (from pictures and data plate W=6)
Heavy duty springs, shocks, sway bar, and brakes (from data plate X=2, part
of ram engine package)

Power 4-way power seat, driver's side only (from data plate Y=4)

Tilt steering wheel (from pictures)

Right side headrest (from pictures, mounting channel installed on passenger
seat only, headrest missing)

Right side fender mount mirror with proper base (from pictures)

The incorrect items I noticed in the pictures are:

Shift lever has incorrect handle on top

Pentastar on driver's side fender. The factory put the pentastar only on the
passenger side fender. Someone must of thought it was suppose to match on
the other side.

Secondary horn button on the left side of the dashboard

Regarding parts, I have a lot of trim here. Also, regarding the convertible
top mechanism....I GOT YOU COVERED! (:D

Regarding the black Newport parts car, in my opinion, take it for trading
material.

Keep in touch, Chris

Chris: Here is the ebay auction where I bought the car:
<http://tinyurl.com/3u4kswc> http://tinyurl.com/3u4kswc

Needs for sure: Inside panels in black vinyl f&r

Front bar & latches for conv. Top mechanism

All plated trim for dash. Pictures look like all is pitted.

Rear seat in black leather. (Or just one to copy if you have one in white or
black)

Round steering wheel.

Left rear ss wheel molding.

I have a sneaking suspicion I may need a complete K ram engine and tranny.

I know I'll need your help sorting it out and access to service manuals &
parts books if you have them. Advertising literature?
