As you point out, most Diamondbacks are major brand black sidewall tires with custom whitewalls or redlines or whatever added by them. Process involves buffing sidewall and applying raw rubber and curing in place with a special mold on tire. Kind of like retreading. If done right, there should not be any balance issues beyond those of original tire, but problem is you first have to have a tire in right size and so far I have not found anyone in the majors still making big 14 inch tires. Still some in P215/75R14 including Narrow Whites (Firestone, Cooper, etc) and P225/70R14. I think at one time they were importing a 14 inch heavy truck tire from Europe as a starting point, May be a bit stiff on the ride but not much alternative in larger 14 inch. As to 15 inch, there are plenty of those to start from if you are looking for Wide Whitewall. But if you have a 1962 or later car with narrow whitewall, you are in luck as there are still several companies (Firestone, Cooper, Kumho, Hankook, Toyo) making decent narrow whites in P225/75R15 and P235/75R15. Thats a much cheaper solution (first 4 are available at Sears) and you have multiple options for local warranty or replacement without the hassle.
