[Chrysler300] Chrysler C300 chokes

Our 1955 Chrysler C-300 has manual chokes on the Carters.  They look pretty
professional with adjustments & springs.  But the letters "C" on the knobs
are upside down.  Anyone else ever seen manual chokes on a '55-'58 300 hemi
engine?  The hot air source for automatic choke heat on the RHS exhaust
manifold is plugged with a SS or aluminum plug.  The car spent its working
life around Colorado Springs, so perhaps the original owner thought manual
chokes might help eliminate hard starting problems.

 

I would like to return the choke system to standard automatic and would
appreciate receiving a detailed description of the plumbing and parts on
factory cars.  Especially, tips on source for the insulation wrapping and
choke coils & covers.  

 

As previously noted, I added an electric fuel pump to prime the carbs with
if needed and the hard starting problem has vanished.  At about 84,000
miles, it usually starts on the first revolution.

Daryl and All:
The long ram cars are all supposed to have two chokes. Coincidently, the 
left side choke on my 300F quit working quite a long time ago. Have to get 
at fixing it, but car still starts fine under normal "cold" conditions. 
The right side maintains the proper fast idle. Not recommended, though.
The "long" short ram cars (300J and ram K) used a covers over the automatic 
choke wells since they were equipped with manual chokes.

I have seen 2 Chrysler 300s that only have a working choke on the 
passenger side long ram. The drivers side manifold has a steel cap bolted on
it in 
place of the choke heater. One of the 300s is a 1960 300F and the other one 
is a 1961 300G, which I just bought. Is this stock? Or was this done by 
someone, and for what reason (both chokes would be too rich of a mixture). 
I'm also interested in a left rear tail light assembly that is in good
driver 
condition (not show quality), with good chrome and no pits or damage.
