RE: [Chrysler300] 300B Seat Belts

Re the attached posts below:
The numbers he gives for the belts in his '56 300B are the same as those on my '57 300C belts fitted to my supercharged C, and by the description sound like they are same as.

Earlier on I was told by ex Chrysler employee back then, that those PNs line up with the part numbering system Chrysler used for 1957 year production/parts. So likely they are 1957 issue - mine however are light medium grey coloured, not the seat leather colour of 300Bs/Cs. And mine do not have the wire securing cabling run through the seat frame - the belting just passes through where the front uprights/squabs meets the lower seat cushion, with the cabling starting below that, but above the floor, where they then lower on are U clamped into the floor in a spot that picks up the cross bracing front edge below the floor - not real handy for rear seat passenger's feet!! But I'd say deliberately secured here so you have to pull up body crossmember before they come free of the floor, and way more secure than the large round plates used way more commonly on other early style pre 1960 belts bolted to just flat floor sections, where you chose a most out of the way location to drill and bolt?

My belts do not show up on build microfish - this lining up with suggestions none were Factory installed, and so until a Chrysler Installation Data sheet/pages for 1957 turns up, it conjecture as to whether Dealer or Chrysler suggested picking up the underfloor crossmember, and how common that was re any other '57 belts installed, mindful it ruins rear floor re putting one's feet in most comfortable places, never mind getting in or out in a hurry/easily. My car was ordered, and Dealer prepped, to as new except for travelling miles, run 1957 Daytona Pure Oil sponsored 'non Factory' class two way Flying Mile, so maybe strength in a possible crash there was more important than any later rear seat passenger's comfort - that if the belts put in before Daytona, which may be probable, as it's later drag racing would not involve their planned for top speed of 150 mph, and the supercharging of the car new to get the hoped for minimum 535bhp they calculated they needed to get that speed on the sand.

Christopher in Australia
'ps Valvoline "XLD Classic" sells here when on sale for about a lowest $14 for 5 litres - AND NOTE, you need the "XLD Classic", not the plain XLD, as only the Classic has the added zinc/whatever, that protects cam etc. I change it about every 1,500- 2,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first, and it gets pretty dirty, so it must also be good detergent wise.

Hello 300B Fans- Phil Irish here,

There were no factory installed seat belts for 56, nor official chrysler
approved dealer installed items either - at least in 56. I believe the
belts you've got were from 57 and there is no way to say for certain who
installed them. There has been considerable back and forth about the
earliest dealer installed items, but this is the first reference to part
numbers that I remember in all the discussion. Dr. Gill, or John Lazenby may
be the best to comment on that.
Let us all know if you turn up something else.

All the Best 300ing,

Phil
