Hello, everyone: I was sorry to read about Eileen Brass. I am looking for a dual exhaust system for a 300K (360 HP) and called the Brasses just the other week. I received a phone number to contact Rannie at (570) 353-2510 in a returned voice mail. I left a message for him and haven't heard back as yet. Over the years I read a few accounts of NROS exhaust systems not fitting well when installed and am leary of ordering from just anyone. Does anyone know Rannie? Has anyone had a good experience with Kantor? Any recommendations? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. They hosted one of the most memorable meets for us---the 1975 Fall Meet in Elmira, NY. Actually, the drive to the meet was the most memorable part. We were living in Michigan at that time, so often traveled with other members to meets. (Wish that could happen more often now.) For some reason, our 300H convert was sitting this one out. We were travelling with D and Donna DeButts in George Riehl's (actually Eleanor's) 300C coupe, and George and Eleanor were together in their reliable black 300J. We had stopped in Pennsylvania to call the motel in Elmira and leave word for Terry McTaggart we were running a little late, and not to plan on us for dinner. The motel person then asked Carol if we were in the flood! "What flood?" was her answer---as it was a sunny day. However---as we progressed across upper Pennsylvania, the weather became more and more inclement. By the time we reached the Westfield, PA area, it was clear there WAS indeed a flood. To the sides of what we hoped was the road, people were being evacuated from their homes by emergency vehicles. Driving along, one could occasionally feel floating things bump into the car. Additionally, we were taking on a little water through the seat belt holes, according to Carol. I didn't notice, I was just trying to keep the "C" on the road. Shortly we came to what we assumed was a bridge. There were rudimentary pipe railings, I figured if the railings were still there, the bridge should be as well, so proceeded to cross. Carol broke a fingernail she grabbed the back of the front seat so hard. George and Eleanor, followed, since the 300C had not disappeared into the murky depths. Later, we were to learn that one more vehicle crossed before the roadway washed out at the end of the bridge! At any rate, the night would have to be spent in Westfield. We were very fortunate to get rooms on the 3rd floor of an old hotel. We have a picture of the two 300s parked in front of it the next morning. Ah, the next morning. The flood had partially separated the 300J's exhaust system, so George made use of a concrete platform surrounding some gas pumps to raise the car enough to crawl under. Bridges were out at both ends of town, but we were lucky enough to have a local member, Eric Eldridge, show us an exit via the "Dump Road". It was only about 3 more miles to Cowanesque, where Eileen and Bob Brass lived, so we stopped in. Bob had gone on the Elmira the previous day to prepare for the meet, but Eileen was home. After looking at the cars in the back yard surrounded by water, we went inside, where Eileen opened the basement door for us. There, one or two stairs down bobbed the freezer and many jars of canned fruit!! The basement was totally flooded. The remainder of the trip to Elmira was thankfully uneventful, but evidences of the flood were numerous---from huge trees lying in fields to water mark lines on buildings at second floor level. We were, also, a little apprehensive when noting the motel was on River Street! However, all was well, and the meet was great, including the weather. I believe, also, that the Elmira meet was the first where we expanded to 3 days. We were told that the flood was due the remains of a hurricane which affected the area. So, that is our story about the meet the Brasses hosted. Eastern Daylight Time, grant4405@xxxxxxxxx writes: i read in the newsflite that eileen brass has died. i talked to her several years ago when i bought a set of pipes for my G. her husband had taken it upon himself to get these made with a local pipe shop because he couldnt find a good set any place else . after he died, she would take orders and she told me that sometimes she would lose money on the deal because of price changes but felt duty bound to carry on her husbands project for all the members. she also told me she used to drive her G to work and it got 18 mpg! she must have had a very kind foot.
