As I recall those "swing out seats" did not operate very well as they had problems with the control cables.

No, The swing-out seats were available on lots of cars. Even some of our 
test cars had them. I liked them then, when in my mid-twenty's, AND I SURE 
WISH I COULD GET THEM NOW, IN MY MID-SEVENTYS!!!!
