[Chrysler300] Starting manuel transmission

Gentlemen,
My 1962 Chrysler 300 Sport Coupe with manurl 3/speed transmission has me stumped.
Rebuilt starter
Replaced starting solinoid on inner fender
Replaced voltage regulator on inner fender
1. Checked fuse in glove compartment-okay
2. If I take the "brown" connector off the starting regulator and run a wire from that terminal on the regulator and to the battery, I can use the ignition key to start the car.
3. If I put the "brown" connector back on the solinoid (nothing, no turning,) it will not start with the key and I have to use a srewdriver on the starting solinoid on the inner fender.

I do not believe that the manuel tranmission has a neutral ignition switch as the automatics have.
Any thoughts????
