Don't understand why there are two sets of
readings, but a small amount of smoke from a new
resistor might be ok if it is short lived. Could
be oils and maybe a preservative burning
off. 14.2 volts seems a little high at idle, is
your meter accurate? What is the voltage when
you rev it up? How about revving it with a low
battery and a load such as headlights on?
