Paul, Probably the best power supply to test 12 volt items is a battery. Be very carefull that you have polarity correct. Also, wouldn't hurt to put a 10 amp fuse between the battery and what ever you are testing. Might have to be a 20 amp fuse if you are testing window or seat motors. The problem with running radios or dashboards from a battery charger is that battery chargers put out high ripple. That ripple voltage can exceed the maximum voltage allowed on some electronics. The battery filters out ripple while you are charging with the alternator or generator. Regards, Bob Blohm

I have always wanted to bench test certain items before installing them back
into the auto, but were always in fear of not hooking things up correctly,
and frying wires.

What would be a good home set up, and items needed in order to do this
properly for a 12v auto?
