This is interesting. I have had somewhere around 13 55 Chryslers here in Nebraska. None have had other than the primered underside of the hood. No indication of any undercoating either. All cars had factory undercoating which I thought was standard. In my opinion the only way the underside of the hood would be undercoated is if the dealership applied it. Were the 300's made at two plants and they did things differently? That is only thing that makes sense from here. My 49 and 50 Chryslers all have the underside of the hood and trunk lid primer color which had been standard technique for some time I believe and I understood that 55 was the last year before they all became body color. My 48 Desoto Suburban has the underside of the hood undercoated and I'm sure it was a dealership affair--and wish it had never happened. Remember at a 300 meet in Denver some years ago Josh Mishler questioned the underside color since it is so ugly next to the Tango red exterior but Gary Goers confirmed that it was correct. sooo?? ----- Original Message ----- From: <lettercars@xxxxxxx> To: <Jslayton@xxxxxxxxxx>; <chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Saturday, February 27, 2010 1:35 PM Subject: Re: [Chrysler300] underside of 55-56 hoods > Johnnie and All: > Finally was able to get over to look at my C300 (VIN 3N55 1322) and very > carefully examine the underside of its hood.
