I had a similar problem with the power seat in our 1955 300. Surprisingly, the seat base just lifts right up and out, exposing the linkage, wiring and motors. The system works by worm gears rotating within travelling nuts--all enclosed by clear plastic tubes. As I recall, I removed small spring clips from the linkage, removed the clear tubes and cleaned 50+ years of dirt from the worm gear. This was all that was wrong. I used some WD-40 to help clean the worm gear. I hope this is helpful. Then you can apply power and see where the problem is. There is no need to remove the guides from the car in order to diagnose the problem. If your car is original or a years-old restoration, this is also a good time to do some cleaning and lubrication. I have a '57 300c with a power seat problem. The left side track is stuck in position for forward movement. Any thoughts on how to fix this problem? When power is applied, the mechanism tries to engage and makes a grinding sound as if the cable/gear is stripped. Thanks for your help.
