When I purchased my F in 2000 i replaced the gaskets with rubber/neoprene that were available from Felpro. When the engine was rebuilt in 2006 I used new Felpro Rubber/neoprene again. These gaskets have held up well. The main probelem with the early 413 is the 4 bolt patern on the covers. These is just not enough contact area and if the cover bolts are overtightened. My 68 charger has the later 8 bolt covers, actually its the heads have to accomodate the covers. When installing the covers I made sure the area around the hole was flattened and I used a washer that I shapped to fit the gasket to better distribute the load. I doubt you will find any aftermarket asbestos gaskets today. We have rubber gaskets. A Mopar mechanic mentioned that Ma Mopar came up with asbestos gaskets later for RB engines. Does anyone think this is a better idea if they are still available? Also, am I the only one who has a leak when my cast iron torqueflite sits for a while with drain back from the TC?
