RE: [Chrysler300] '62 Chrysler VIN question

Thanks John, Dave, Mark and Charlie for the responses on the '62 Chrysler
VIN question. All I have from this car that was scrapped, is the trim code
plate, and the "VIN" printed on a piece of scratch paper. Based on your
collective feedback, the number doesn't appear to be a proper VIN, and I
suspect 2312011251 was a number we found stamped on the body firewall. In
looking at photos of the rolling chassis, it is obvious that the VIN plate
was missing. The trim code plate reads at the top 12011251 822, and 822
under BDY and 453 under TRM. I think it was a '62 300 Sport 2 door based
on your input. If anyone disagrees with this assessment, let me know.

Thanks!

Bob J

My 300 Sport Convertible has a Vin of 8223120924 with the 82 stamped in and
the remainder embossed.

I'm thinking the "84" that is normally stamped in, instead of embossed on
the VIN tag with raised digits, was somehow overlooked or obscured (paint?
rust?)
That might explain the VIN starting with "23" instead of "8423"
Of course, this is all assuming that it is a full-sized Chrysler.

Something haywire here!
Are you sure the VIN is copied correctly??

According to my '62 books;

2....Plymouth 6 cyl chassis.
......Chrysler should be an 8
3....Fury
......A 300 should be a 4
1....1961
.......1962 should be a 2
2.....Dodge plant, Detroit
.......Again, Chrysler should be a 3 for Jefferson ave but if it's a "sport"

I suppose it could have been built in Newark (6) or LA (5)

If it was a 300 vin should read 8423+1xxxxx
If a Newport 2nd digit would be a 5, NY'er a 7

I think you have transposed the last 2 digits, imagine that!!
