Just a reminder dont forget to make shure the RV2 compressor has the oil sump filled to proper levels before you charge it. The service manual shows how to make a dipstick to check compressor oil levels.Unlike modern rotary compressors which get their oil from the ac charge. ----- Original Message ----- From: Bob Jasinski To: 'Dave Schwandt' ; 'list server' Sent: Wednesday, September 09, 2009 5:28 PM Subject: RE: [Chrysler300] reciever drier/oli Dave, If the compressor locked up and failed, it most likely contaminated the system. I would purge the entire system with mineral spirits before attempting to evacuate and charge as you will probably have problems with dirt in the system. The dirt will damage your new compressor and cost you that plus the R12 you put in it. A complete purge is the only way you can clean the system and have an accurate way to put the correct amount of oil back in the system. Disconnect the lines at the expansion valve, the compressor, and the receiver dryer. Fill with mineral spirits and blow through each component until clear. Install new parts, pour in the specified amount of oil on the high side, and evacuate. Charge to specified amount. Don't take shortcuts, you will be sorry. Been there, done that! Bob J Note: do NOT use mineral spirits with R134a, they are not compatible _____ From: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Dave Schwandt Sent: Wednesday, September 09, 2009 2:09 PM To: list server Subject: [Chrysler300] reciever drier/oli had a fellow tell me I should put a little a/c system oil in my new reciever drier before installing it. I'm hanging a new rebuilt A/C compressor on the F and EPR valve also. Gonna use R-12 System has been down for 5 years or so and still had a charge in it. The old compressor had locked up and burnt the clutch and bearing up. Any comments??
