The hog roast held at The Burkes estate and the BBQ held at George Riehl's farm (complete with black angus cattle in the pasture) on July 24-25, 2009, was a complete success. Great weather and sunshine were in favor. Members from Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, Pensylvania, Michigan and Canada were in attendance. All but the '55 C-300 and the '59 300E were on display by the members. Featured 300s were....Larry Tarantolo's (Gregg Ziegler's) 300F 4 speed "Special" and Dave's Clelland's newly restored 300F cvt.. In addition, Jeff Miklas brought a "new" 6.1 HEMI Challenger, Andy Mikonis brought a "new" 300C 6.1 HEMI SRT and lowly me, showed my "new" 300C HEMI 5.7L "Black Tie Edition". Friday, all gathered at the Burke's for a GREAT hog roast..WOW! And toured Michael's collection of 300's and parts in the many differnt barns. Sat., most all toured to the Kruse Militay Museum and the ACD Museum in Auburn, Indiana. After, then to the Riehl's for a BBQ picnic and a tour of 3 buildings with 300s and parts inventory. Hamburgers, dogs and sausages on the grille with all the trimmings. Talking cars, meeting friends and taking pictures along with a representative (Jim) from "Slip-Kote", an oil additive (which I use in all my engines), gave a talk and demonstration about the current oils that are not quite up to par for our "old" engines and just what his product can due to prevent engine damage. Most all said that our Picnic for next year would be on their schedule. All had a great time! Great thanks go to Linda and Michael, my Granddaughter, Victoria, for all the painting of the pasture fence she did and "serving" the food, cleaning up, and to my Son-in-Law, David and my Daughter, Laura for their help and food they brought and working the grille. Also, to those that brought side dishes, yummy! Unfortunately, the country fresh "road kill" items didn't go over so well! We'll know better next time!
