A fellow member sent me scans of a salesman's pocket price guide for 1955
Chryslers. Unfortunately, they do not include the 300 model.
Excerpts from the 300 Sales Brochure dated 2-55 indicates the 300 base price
included the following:
Manual steering, handbrake flasher warning signal,
windshield washer, custom steering wheel, safety cushion
padded dash panel, dual exhaust pipe deflectors, power brakes,
luggage compartment, map and glove box lights, special safety super-cushion
nylon tubeless white sidewall tires 8.00 x 15 4 ply. (Hmm--I thought the
Blue Streaks were 6-ply)
Another member sent me a copy of the 7/29/55 invoice for his car, showing a
nice round $3,900 sales price for a 1955 Chrysler 300 with the following
factory-installed equipment: clock, heater/defroster, radio & rear speaker,
power steering, electric window lifts, Solex glass, 4-way electric seat,
power brakes, WSW Nylon tires, Powerflite, Leather trim.
According to the accessories pricing schedule below, the MSRP might have
been calculated as shown, but the calculated $3,325 base price must have
been discounted by $1,000, or so. Base Price= $3,900-(18.25 (clock)+92.00
(heater)+128.40 (radio)+18.95 (rear speaker)+113.00 (power steering)+102.20
(Electric windows)+32.30 (Solex glass)+69.90 (electric seat))=$3,325.00.
Pretty good discount! Does anyone have a solid reference for the base price
for a 1955 Chrysler 300??? I've seen list prices of $4,109, $4,110 and
$4,055 in articles and these are slightly below the MSRP for the New Yorker
Newport or St. Regis coupes $4,110/$4,149). I'd have the thought a 300
coupe would have cost more than a New Yorker coupe.
Any editing, confirmation or new information on '55 Chrysler 300 pricing
would be appreciated.
