RE: [Chrysler300] 1955 Batwing on e-Bay

Brother Graefen has gently advised me that Chrysler never referred to the
1955-56 Chrysler 300 air cleaners as "batwings", but used the term "delta".
Only those lesser marques of GM and Packard referred to their dual/triple
carb air cleaners as "batwings".

In any case, they are all attractive sculptures in sheet metal--some or all
produced by Rochester if my recollection of reading is accurate.

Thanks, Wayne. I felt this information was worth sharing.

On a separate subject, my mechanic/machinist is going to cut an O-ring
groove on the OD of the inner transmission selector shaft and place an
O-ring there to provide a positive seal between the shafts and inhibit that
aggravating drippopotamus from that area. Wish us luck and I'll let you
know how it works out.

I have been in communication with a guy that has placed a very nice, if not
NOS, 1955 Chrysler 300 air cleaner--commonly known as a batwing. If you
need one or wish to upgrade yours, this might be of interest. See:
http://tinyurl.com/cpkxuq
e-Bay auction number 290308194559. The pictures are worth viewing for color
and sheen. The batwing appears to be a little shinier than the original
semi-gloss that has been described to me.

The guy also claims to have a '55 300 engine with intake manifold, but no
carbs. I don't know him personally, nor have I seen the goods. His
feedback includes a recent sale of a '55 300 for $12,000. His buyers seem
satisfied.

I first searched for this item on e-Bay by entering the words "batwing air"
and came up with metal and fiberglass air cleaners for Chev & Cad & Olds J2.
I had never seen an Olds batwing and found it to be interesting. The 300
batwing does not have the word batwing in the title of the item.
