There seems to be a similar photo of 55's leading a Plymouth in a race that was used in a PurOlator oil filter ad I have hanging in my office. Roof names are Fonty & Tim Flock with Tim's car in front, just slightly. Fender name is SKYLINE SPORTING GOODS with MERCURY OUTBOARDS logo on the door and rear fender. "C" or "D" letters and Purolator logos on hoods. Wire mesh screen in front of those great grilles, windshield wipers installed along with hood holddowns. Headlights blanked off, roll bars installed. The print is titled "THE MIGHTY THREE HUNDRED", is signed by Tim Flock and looks great in my den along with "A Dash for Timber" by Frederic Remington. I also have a copy of a photo of a similar "tribute" car with a very similar view angle at a car show done up in race paint with HAGOOD BROS on the fender, but no trash screen and headlights are installed. It appears to have a roll bar. It may be that Kiekhaefer featured some of his favorite or sponsoring dealers on his championship cars. He wanted to sell the Mercury outboard engines and needed to guide the customers to a nearby dealer. Makes sense to me. Perhaps some that saw them race can shed some light as to how these brutes were painted? PS: I should add that it was labeled as a 'photo finish' and the car wearing Lee Petty's name seemed to be 'sponsored' by a garage and the Flock car was labeled as a Florida outboard marine dealer sponsored car. -- Paul Holmgren Mine: 2 57 300-C's in Indy Hers: 05 PT GT R/T HO Hoosier Corps L#6 ------------------------------------ To send a message to this group, send an email to: Chrysler300@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:Chrysler300%40yahoogroups.com> For list server instructions, go to http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm <http://www.chrysler300club.com/yahoolist/inst.htm> For archives go to http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/Yahoo <http://www.forwardlook.net/300-archive/Yahoo> !
