Well, if you have no reserve (as is the case at B-J) and you aren't happy with the bid, you bid to prevent the sale to someone else. If you wind up with the winning bid, it only costs you the commission (they will take one [buy or sell] as opposed to both) and you get to keep your car rather than selling it for half of what it is worth. For example, in the case of the C-300 everyone has been saying went for peanuts, the owner could have bid $1,000 more and possibly kept his car for the 8% commission.
