We buy parts wholesale for our business from many different dealers. so what we see; Selling parts is a source of income for a vehicle manufacturer and then their dealer. What we see is that the parts room profit (and the dealership service dept profit) is becoming critically more important at the dealership level we are told as vehicle sales drop. And, dealerships desperately need to sell vehicles and selling parts to keep old cars moving does not move vehicle inventory. So, parts prices go up and availability goes down. And, yes, a three year old vehicle is 'old' at the dealership level and is definately a prime opportunity for a trade in deal.
