Hi all. Our TF trans are notorious for torque converter drain down as soon as you shut the motor off. A few days and the entire top half of TC will drain back into trans. This will vary according to the condition of the sealing rings that are intended to prevent drain back. When you start the car with level high it can whip up the oil and likely push some up and out the tube. You want to make sure you are checking fluid at operating temp, in neutral, idling on a level surface. Another little pain I discovered on CI TF. I had a friend tell me that oil was dripping from around the trans mount bolts. I told him it is not likely leaking around the bolts as they do not thread to the interior of the tail housing. A few days later I removed a trans from a motor and turned it over to remove the trans mount from the housing. I was surprised to see the pocket between the trans mount pads full of oil. I wiped out the oil to see what looked like cracks in the tail housing casting. I told my friend what I found. I his case he likely has cracks that went out to mount bolt holes. The trans I have only cracked above the pocket in tail housing. The steel plate on the mount sealed it off and no oil leaked out. By the way this happens to my friends car, after the car has sat a few days. Drain down. If my 300G (cast iron case torqueflite) sits for more then 2 days, it will blow transmission fluid out the dipstick tube when I start it. What is my problem and how do I fix it. I thank you in advance.
