Actually Jim, 50,000 volts is a bit on the high side. Per the service manual, the power pack for the electroluminescent lighting converts 12 volts DC to 200 volts AC at 250 Hz. You will definitely feel it, but it won't kill you, the current is too low. The prudent thing to do is to disconnect the battery before messing around with the system though.
