RE: [Chrysler300] What's numbers matching

For 1955's (and '56's & '57's, also, I think) there was no effort at the
factory to match VIN's and engine S/N's. Our 1955 VIN is 3N551198 and has
its original engine S/N 3NE551098. The "fender" tag, actually mounted to
the cowl indicates the "Body Number" is 1191. The 1191 does not show up on
the Build Card. I don't know about other matching numbers as might be found
on the transmission or differential. These two ID #'s qualify as "matching"
as they are authenticated by microfiche copies of original IBM Chrysler
build cards.

The VIN is on a stainless steel tag mounted on the driver's side door jamb.
The engine S/N is stamped on top of the block, just behind the water pump.

I believe I was told that no concours points would be deducted by our judges
if a replacement 300 engine from the same year (must have the prefix
3N55....) was installed. Engines can fail, even hemi's, so I think that is
a fair policy.

Special thanks to all the veterans and their families on this Memorial Day.
Wikipedia has an interesting summary of this Day's complex history at:

OK group,
I don't think I've seen this before but what exactly is
numbers matching on our letter cars. On the newer MoPars I think '69 and
newer
there is the vin # or part of the sequence stamped on both the engine block
and
the side of the transmission. On my '64 the ID pad has C300K and a date.
Should there be a vin on the block and trans also?

Thanks,
Mike Laiserin
