And the writer states that the 1956 Chrysler 300-B was the first letter car. I believe the 1955 was the first letter car. Is that an open issue in this club? And, that the 300-B engine had 355 HP. That rating was apparently an optional super high performance to help Kiekhaefer cop the second NASCAR champeenship. >From another website: For 1956 the 300B received the corporation's raised rear fins and Chrysler's new 12-volt electrical system. Displacement was increased to 354 cu. in. (5.8 liters) and horsepower to 340. An optional 10.0:1 compression ratio pushed horsepower to 355, just over one horsepower per cubic inch. I tell anyone, interested or not, that Chrysler did not know they were creating the beginning of a very successful series in 1955 and so did not call the 1955 Chrysler 300 a 300-"A". And even if they did, it would have been pretty cocky to so name it. And the ad did seem very clear in one place that air conditioning could be added for $1,495--then noted option 311 was factory air on the car. At some place this seems like two different cars--possibly since the seller is a dealer and may have prepared a similar ad for a similar car in the past. Clarification would help the cred of this ad. The car in the photos does look like a very nice restoration. I have no problem referencing our club's documentation process, if done accurately. I feel this adds value to our club and cars. There is a difference between a copy of a build sheet and a physical verification of VIN's, S/N's, actual equipment (and color--this black car was originally white, according to the ad.) by our judges. I'd even suggest that the judging process be expanded to produce some optional, extra cost, evidence of the authenticity, or lack of it, for all judged cars. Last note: I surfed our club website this morning and it seemed a little lacking in mechanical specifications such as HP, length, width, weight, cost, axle ratios, colors and so forth. Maybe I missed it, but, if it isn't there, it should be. The site loaded very slowly, also--perhaps an indication of heavy visiting? Not complaining, just offering constructive criticism of the ad and our site. Anyone know the history? It has a Gil report in the ad (tough to read..appears to be the first vin) and gives personal thanks to Gary Goers for the help in doing the interior. No pics of the vin or data plate.
