[Chrysler300] News on repo 300C-E rear 1/4s?

Chris & List-

I haven't seen the 57-59 rear quarters in person, but here is a description of them as given by my body shop guy who is more than a few hours away from me. I haven't seen them myself.

  1) Packaging is horrible - the two quarters arrived only in a simple cardboard box, separated by another piece of cardboard. There was no support, so that when the UPS folks lifted up one end, the other end would bend downwards like a wet noodle under its own weight. My body guy said both quarters arrived badly bent, but he said he will fix them as necessary.

  2) The pieces appeared to be hand-formed rather than stamped. About 10% of the wheelwell lip was the wrong contour, but again, he can rework it to make it right.

  3) The thickness appears satisfactory, but I cannot say what gauge it was. I would guess they are thinner than original if I was a betting man, but again, my body guy said he would be using them.

Overall, I can only say (based on my body guy's observations) that they are better than no quarters at all. A single side just sold for over $450 on eBay. I paid $363 including shipping from Michigan to Florida for both sides.

I hope that helps any of you out there trying to make a decision to buy the panels or not.

Any reports yet on the recently available repo new rear lower quarters for
300C -300E - especially re thickness of steel used, and how good a quality
re fit and matching factory pressings of wheel arch? I think I have noticed
some pretty high/silly ebay prices/bids on recent listings on ebay, so
quality will want to be high !!

Not much news here in Australia that I know of, except a Los Angeles
Container shipper/loader has only just loaded a friend's 40 foot container
with some of my stuff in it because he has just loaded 50 others due to the
aussie dollar going up has seen heaps of buying of US old cars. (plus maybe
USPS mid May scrapping former Sea Mail shipping o/seas, has seen likely many
others apart from me caught re former ways of shipping smaller heavy car
parts to Aus?!)

On US prices recently, I predict there may be many of 50 containers with
some pretty rough cars in them - you yanks must love us aussies who buy real
major resto project often pretty ordinary stuff like that.

And on July 4, GM Australia, started production of rear drive ( latest spec
Chev V8 engined) Pontiac G8 family sedan which I think is released in US in
Sept - if it sells over 50,000 per annum, production may shift to US - this
car floorpan is I think same as to be in soon new Camaro - both obviously
lhd. G8 should run near sub 14 sec 1/4 mile based on aussie same car that
has been on market since last year, although without better looking Pontiac
front on it.
