[Chrysler300] Dash Pad Restoration

Good morning,
I just got a very nice original dash pad for my G conv. project. It does, however, need to be dyed. Question: How do I ensure the suppleness (word?) of the original vinyl? I am concerned that if I go ahead and dye it now, the conditioners may not be able to penetrate the dye? But if I soak it in conditioners now, will it take the dye?
What do you recommend?
Time/speed is not a problem as it will be a couple of years before it gets installed.
I know Just Dashes repo's these, I think their quality stinks ( I used one in my G coupe) so they are NOT an option.
Best regards,
Richard Osborne
