there are references to the Centerplane brakes on our 300's
It answers the Brake Fade PROBLEMS some experience

it says the 300's got semi-metallic brake lineings
NOT the organic that is used in the replacement shoes you probably are 
using today.

This might bear some varification and further exploring.

I know several years ago I chatted with a brake place that said, given 
the right shoes we can reline them with what ever material specified by 
the customer in an effort to get better braking.

Maybe semi-metalic linings were ORIGINAL, but the aftermarket supply 
chain back in the late 50's didnt have the material????

so hence forth, we were not getting the proper lining material and 
no-one was the wiser???
