Just when you feel like you've got it licked, something else goes wrong. A few weeks back I started getting some noises as I backed up the car. As time went on the sound became more serious and occured while I turned and braked to a stop. Sent her to the brake shop. The brakes were fine all around, as I expected. The mechanic at the shop diagnosed the noises as scraping of the drum against the brake plate. He felt that wear on the axle was allowing it to float back and forth, enough to rub against the plate. Has anyone had a problem like this? If so, how was it fixed? Is this a good reason to have the axle, differential, rebuilt? My big, bad, black, F and I will be heading out tomorrow and again Saturday to the Woodward Dream Cruise, but I wish she didn't make all that racket.
