Russ and all: As I recall the way it was described to me, (I may be mistaken on this point), the earlier Cast Iron Torqueflites have a different flywheel starter ring with a different number of teeth (therefore a different pitch) than the later Aluminum Torqueflites. I don't know if you could interchange a later starter ring on the earlier flywheel, or change out the drive gear on the starter. If the pitch and number of teeth are indeed different, the position of the axis of the starter drive pinion might also have a different radius location about the crankshaft centerline as well. Anyway, there would be a lot of things to look into before just going out and buying something hoping it might bolt in. Then there is the matter of the different sound that the later (gear drive) mini-starters make when actuated. Personally, I sort of like the sound of the newer mini-starters. I had to hunt a starter down for my Hemi vehicle, unfortunately, best bet is to find and original starter. This might be what Mancini is selling. I cannot recall if the snouts were the same however. If trhe parts are available to upgrade the 426 starters to high output, then the G & F starters can be upgraded also.
