Hello 300'ly to all! Left Lawton at 5:00 AM on July 4th and drove straight through to Arvada, Colorado with Marnie and our younger son Sean (home on leave from Air Force and medical school for a week) and met other son RJ and daughter-in-law Nicole at Clive Cussler's Collection/Museum. Got there at 3:45 PM with closing at 7:00 PM. Very understanding family indeed! Phenomenal is the best way to describe this collection. Clive mentions many of his cars in his writings and has the books displayed next to the featured vehicles. LOVED the '58 D Turquoise convertible he had on display which was featured in Cussler's latest Dirk Pitt adventure novel BLACK WIND. Also on display was a black C300 and a Terra Cotta F hardtop. The Parade Green C was in storage waiting to be cycled in an upcoming display. There are two rooms, one with all the pre-war vehicles......absolutely mind boggling (a 1929 Duesenberg Model J Murphy bodied Phaeton was but one of about 30 vintage vehicles such as Pierce-Arrows, Chrysler Imperial, Rolls-Royces, Locomobile, Lincolns, 12 cylinder Cadillacs, Daimler, Cord, Bugatti, Allard, and other European pre-war exotics). The other room has the post-war American dream machines, mainly '50s and a few '60s. The MOPARS featured the three previously mentioned 300s and two Imperial convertibles, a '58 and a '60.....pristine to say the least. Interesting in that from my club experience I was able to realize some lapses in authenticity, especially the incorrectly painted D wheel covers, and the chrome-plated hemi valve covers and spark plug wire covers on the C300. The curator stated that these changes were present on the car at the time Cussler purchased them. So if in the Denver area, go see the Cussler Museum in Arvada. It is open only on Monday & Tuesdays from 10:00AM to 7:00PM. Admission is $7 per adult. Neat place for a family reunion. (besides a 300 Club Meet...by the way which is Sept. 27th to Oct. 1st in Lawton!) ROB KERN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] ------------------------ Yahoo!
