According to Webster's, the word "restoration" is defined as: "A putting or bringing back into a former, normal, or unimpaired state or condition" The benchmark for a restoration is the condition the car was when it sat on the dealer's showroom floor, or was first delivered to the original owner. This is the 300 Club International's Concours judging standard. Anything other than that is a modification of the original, that is why it is virtually impossible to get a 1000 point award when being judged. You would have to have everything as original, tires (Blue Streaks) paint (enamel), battery (Autolite or Willard), hoses, belts, paint marks, plating etc; no accessories that were not originally on the car. These are tough standards, and in many cases it is easier or more desirable to "over-restore" a car than to keep it as original as possible. Paint is one of the main areas where our cars are over restored, and in watching the Barrett Jackson auction this past month, there were comments from the TV reporters about the higher degree of paint quality on many "restored" cars. A 300 viewed in auction venues as being a "perfect" restoration may very well not be a high point car when judged by our Club and vice-versa.
