Joe, I don't know, but since dogs can hear a whistle that human ears can't, that is something that should be checked out. See if the store would let you return it if you plug it in and get a reaction from your dog. I don't have a dog any more, since I live part time in town with a small back yard. I would think if your dog shows no response if you plug and unplug the device while it is close, it would be ok.
