Re: [Chrysler300] gas opinion

A few months ago I cleaned out a gas tank that had old fuel in it by
powerwashing (soap, rinse, soap, rinse, etc., dry). At the time I was
missing a fuel filler tube grommet so I just taped up all the openings and
set the tank aside for later final cleaning, etching, and sealing. When I
reopened the tank a few weeks later I could not believe the amount of
corrosion that had reformed in the tank and on the pickup unit tubing (big
crystals of something). There were odd smelling fumes from whatever
chemistry was going on. I just guessed it was a combination of traces of
fuel, stabilizer (some had been added), moisture, a hot environment, and no
air circulation.

I'm not sure of the best answer to your question but if you could circulate
dry air through your tank I think you would be better off than sealing it
up, if you do empty your tank.
