[Chrysler300] Re: 1957 headlight laws

Ed,

This could be done by going through the microfiche of the early cars one by one but it wouldn't be all that relative because the vast majority of them were soon converted to dual headlamps at the dealerships either by owner request or to meet the new standard for sales lot inventory. Extremely few survived the first few months to remain as single headlamp cars.
No, they were not batched in the VIN numbers. Depending on what state they were going to, the assembly line installer either pulled the single or dual lamp assemblies from the bins next to him and spot welded them into the fenders. No problem.

Thank you for the response Wayne. I find it amazing that the time span between optional equipment and standard eqpt was a mere three weeks. Is there nowhere to investigate how many of each were made, let alone still possibly on the road? The club keeps such meticulous records on how many cars are in operation EG. keeping track of vins, etc. Surely Chrysler batched the single vs. double headlamps in the vin no's. As this was a transition year for the 300's perhaps this would be an interesting bit of info.
