Looks like there are a lot of great ideas for prepping the car for a show. Here's what I do. If it needs it, I wash the car before leaving home. The only thing I use on my tires is Bleech-White and a stiff nylon brush. When I arrive at the show, I dust off the car with a "California Duster" I have 4 of these and the older they are, the better they work. I think they work on the same principle as the Kozak cloth, only in duster form. After the car is dusted, I use distilled water in an spray bottle, spray a small section, and dry with an old clean soft terry towel. I only spray clean the spots that need it, like the front bumper, grill, windshield, and anywhere else that needs it. After using the towel, I sometimes have to use the duster again to remove the lint. The towel gets washed in the regular laundry after each show. Some other notes: Don't use a brand new California Duster on a hot black surface, it leaves wax streaks on the paint that must be buffed off. After a few uses, though, this no longer happens. I use distilled water because even in the direct sun, it doesn't leave water streaks. I wax my car about three or four times a year and I think that's why it cleans so easily (for a black car). I use a smaller version of the California Duster in the engine bay, being careful not to disturb any wire connections. I don't spend a lot of time detailing at a local show, I'd rather hob-nob with the car guys (and gals), and field questions and comments about the car. It seems that whenever I'm parked next to a guy who uses all that "ArmourAll" type stuff, the overspray blows over onto my black paint and makes speckles on the surface. I guess that's why I only use the water method. That way, nobody gets P.O. with me. And Mike, don't forget your lawn chair, umbrella, and sunscreen. See you all in Carlisle. I'm about to enter the first car show I've ever entered. I will drive the "F" about 35-40 miles to the show. What do ya'll use to clean up the front from bugs, etc. when you get to a show if you can't wash it. Same question for dust, etc. Your comments and help on this will be greatly appreciated!
