[Chrysler300] F, G, or H dashboard pad crack repairs. Is it possible!?

Hello everyone! I have a currant mint dash pad for my G from 'Just Dashes'.  The character of the ridges on it opposed to an original is about as far off as one can imagine! It is on my car right now.I've recently acquired an original charcoal black pad from a '62 300 non-letter and it was okay except for a crack running from the rear view mirror post to the corner of were the speaker is. I tried to fix it myself with a repair kit and wasn't sucessful. The material cracked again when I pressed on it (and not really hard either). I attempted an 'operation' on it by turning it upside down and removing an inch or so of the padding itself along both sides of the crack (from underside). I then figured I can use a patch adhereing it with the glue and gap filler applied from underside on both sides of crack, stuff it back with padding, then do the clean up 'cosmetics' on the visible side. It did not adhere. I tried other glues for patch as well and absolutely nothing and I mean NOTHING
