Sorry, all non-G owners, this is the sort of discussion I was hoping to avoid. Now I've pulled out some notes... John, I looked up your convert, it is 198046, so you agree then. Johan, sorry but I'm pretty sure that I have actually seen 4 cars after yours that have the trunk numbers. If I remember correctly, these are 202672, 202875, 203209, and 204895. (My own 202517 was missing its decklid.) The first car I can document with trunk numbers is 144762, built in mid-December 1960, so that more or less agrees with the "January 1st, 1961 in showrooms" theory. I am aware early lit shows the numbers, I think this is the major source of confusion. I don't think it means anything. Maybe they decided to leave the numbers off, and then buyers complained because they weren't getting everything they saw in the brochure. I've been testing this theory with 30-40 300G's I have seen over the last 10 years, so far it works!
